Ty is down for a nap, and I really should be resting too, but I can't keep my crazy morning a secret.
Jeff left for the airport at 4 am, which in itself wasn't too bad (for me anyway, he might feel differently).
The real chaos started when Lucas's ride didn't come. We waited and waited. He sent a few texts, nothing. I don't mind running the kids into school, except Ty was still sleeping and the other two kids needed to get ready for school. Thankfully my dad was able to take Lucas in. Woo hoo! The morning is saved.
Or so I thought.
I was putting Ali's hair in pony tails and noticed the bus drive by on it's way to the first stop (our neighbor). AACK! He's a little early and we're a little late. At this point I'm hoping the bus waits a few minutes at the first stop since he's a little early. I call to Larson to get his shoes on while I finish Ali's hair. No such luck with the bus. The neighbor girl gets on and he's driving to our house. The kids are in a panic. Ali grabs her shoes and runs outside. Larson starts running around yelling, and I quickly get him under control so I can finish tying his shoes and get his hoodie on. As I'm finishing up with Larson I hear Ali yelling "wait! we're having a problem here!" OMG The bus driver is going to think we have a medical emergency and call an ambulance or something. I gather up Ali's hoodie and backpack and run outside to get her ready and notice the neighbor girl had gotten off the bus to see what all the commotion is about. She's calming Ali and trying to help her get her shoes on. Needless to say, I was glad when the kids were on the bus. I said a little prayer that the rest of the day goes a little better.
Where was Ty during all this? He found Larson's cereal bowl full of milk on the ottoman in the livingroom and helped himself. Considering he doesn't feed himself yet, he did a pretty good job with the spoon. After all the commotion, I was so thankful Ty was being quiet, I didn't mind wiping up a little bit of spilled milk. Honestly, I could laugh through the whole incident because I knew we'd be OK. It was just one of those mornings.
So far the rest of the day has gone relatively smoothly. Yay!
Now it's time for this momma to take a nap!

Cows can hide?
I've lost a grand total of 3 pounds since the end of biggest looser. (33 pounds total) Not real impressive start to my "loose 10 more by Thanksgiving" goal. Well, fall is a new schedule and I've had a hard time getting back into the groove. The good news is I'm back on the down slide now that I have the new routine down.
This week is nuts! I'm not going to find time to hit the gym much, so I decided to take my 3 mile run on the country roads this morning. It was a nice morning....not too chilly, not too hot. I noticed a cow out of her pen at the neighbor's on my way out. She was laying nice so I figured she wasn't going anywhere, she was OK. The others were munching on breakfast. Some playing queen of the hill on a pile of hay, which makes me giggle to see a cow standing atop a hay pile. On my way back, Miss. Escapee gets up and stands behind a tree. Almost like she was hiding from me. "If I stand here, that human won't see me."
If we only knew what animals were thinking.....

Lost a Ty
I'm down 20 pounds since participating in Biggest Looser! That's a total of 25 pounds since January. Since January I have lost a what Ty weighs. I can hardly carry him for more than 10 minutes! It's amazing what we get accustom to. Man, was I out of shape! It would be fun to loose an Ali, but that would be too much. Does anyone have a 45 pounder I could loose? :-) Another 15-20 pounds and I'm on to maintenance. Yay! Can't say I'll miss going to the gym 5 days a week.

Date Weekend
What a fantastic weekend! Friday afternoon/evening we spent some quality time hanging out at the hotel, swimming, hot-tubbing, dining out. Hit DSW and Dick's. We found out the the cost of in-room movies has gone up....$10.99.
On Saturday we shopped. Since shopping with 3 kids is next to impossible, we took advantage. We had a bunch of gift cards from Christmas and birthdays so we had the funds available to get school shopping done. I needed some jeans (woohoo!) and so did Jeff. We hit Macy's, Kohls, and Target in the morning. Off to Albertville for the afternoon. We did some damage in Ann Taylor, Puma, Carters and Oshkosh. Almost walked away with some clothes from Calvin Klein, but we needed to pace ourselves financially (aka didn't have a gift card from there). I don't think I've ever spent an entire day shopping. I didn't realize how exhausting it is! We were sore and tired. We couldn't think anymore. Making a good decision on what the kids might or might not wear was next to impossible after a while.
Thank you to Hilton Garden Inn, Maple Grove, for a nice stay. The rooms are clean, the pool area is nice, the exercise room was great, and breakfast! Can you say "made to order"? Of course I couldn't partake in that, but the fruit was excellent! Great location for anyone wanting to do lots of shopping. Arbor Lakes shops are close as well as a few malls and Albertville. Plenty of dining options.
The kids were happy to see us on Sunday. Ty went through a myriad of emotions on the ride home from Grandma and Grandpa Hemingson. Larson and Ali were relieved to see mom and dad came back. :-) Larson went through his inventory of school clothes, and we only have one item to take back. Success!! Now to talk Ali into wearing clothes other than the 4 dresses she owns. Girls! She's been banned from buy clothes until she wears the ones she has in her closet.
Back to reality today. Swimming lessons and a really nice lunch with a good friend (minus kids). I pretty nervous to weigh myself. I think I'll hold off until tomorrow morning. It might be ugly, but it might not. I'll keep you posted. Next week we will be off to the lake for our annual family vacation. I'm so excited to see sister and spend some quality time with the family. Hopefully we'll get a run in, and some water skiing should be good for core strength training. A hike up Inspiration Point will be good cardio. Three more weigh-ins for Biggest Looser. It would be fun to be down 10 more pounds. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Weigh-in update.
Down another pound! Whew! I thought I was going to gain this week because I was up in the middle of the week. I am sore and tired today. Last night's biggest looser was killer! We ran a mile in the heat, lifted weights (really heavy weights), and did some core work.
This is the second time I've dropped weight and really worked hard doing so. There isn't one single easy solution. On Extreme Makeover: Weightloss Edition, one contestant said something like "I can never find a way to loose the weight." Like she was looking for the one magic solution that will instantly and easily take the weight off for her. I literally yelled at the screen "eat right and exercise!".
I think most people have the determination and want. What people don't have is the selfishness to do so. Yes, you need to be selfish. "No, we can't go out to eat." I'm going to exercise 5 days a week....the family will figure something out.
In order to get my five workouts a week, I look at the calendar every week and "marker in" (not "pencil in"). If something comes up (which it rarely does, because within one week I can be pretty accurate), I re-arrange and still get my workouts in. Many times I have to talk it through with my husband to get it right. I think women tend to put everyone else first, but I honestly think that their husbands/partners and children are more than happy to help her get what she needs. She just needs to verbalize her needs... partners and children are not mind readers. Communication! Both my husband I can get what we want/need when we communicate.
I have actually had to tell friends "no" to getting together or going out (sorry ladies), because I need to do this. Guess what....they understand and are completely fine with it! It takes some selfishness - or at least what we feel is selfishness - to get what you need.
If anyone feels like they need to make a similar change, just do it. Communicate with your partner, friends, and family to set up the schedule, and for goodness sake don't give up. There's not point in going through the pain if you're only going to quit anyway. I had one friend tell me that she stopped running because her legs hurt. Well, duh! It's going to hurt. I remember for an entire week I could barely walk down the steps. I may run 5 miles now, but the 2 weeks leading up to that were pure torture. The only way to make the pain stop is to work through it. Push yourself. Do stuff you've never thought you could do. I started 10 weeks ago, I couldn't run for 7 minutes straight at 5 mph. I now can do 3 miles at 6 mph. When I do intervals, I can run beyond 8 mph. You don't know what you can do until you try, and then you can push yourself beyond that.
Enough of that. How about eating? You can either count calories or do a program like Weight Watchers or NutriSystem. Whatever you do track your food. There are times when I could have eaten too much, and times that I could have eaten too little. Here's an example....if you're counting calories and need to eat 1500, eat them in five meals. So eat five 300 calorie meals. Through Weight Watchers I have breakfast, morning snack (usually a protein bar), lunch, afternoon snack (usually almonds, fruit and milk), and dinner. No food after 7:00pm. Tracking food is a PITA (pain in the a$$), I know. But it's one of those "commit" things.
I wish everyone a healthy happy July, and hope that everyone is getting whatever it is THEY want.

"Hot like Africa" -- Alicia
This morning my daughter announces that it's hot like Africa today. Yep. She's right. However, I'll take this over -30F any day.
I had been thinking all night and all morning about how I'm going to keep the kids cool and entertained today. We only have one window air conditioner in the house and it keeps the house cool for the most part. Weeks with temps and humidity like this week, the a/c can't keep up. We're stuck in the living room to keep cool today. During my workout at the gym it occurred to me I could take them to McDonalds for some cool fun. We normally go to the McDonalds in Norwood Young America when we want to make it an outing, because it has a better set up than our local McDonalds (bigger, cleaner, better eating area, etc.).
So how do I manage a trip to McD's on a diet? Eat on the way. It's a 30 minute drive, so I had time to munch on the way. I grabbed a serving of almonds, a banana, and lemon water. I get the kids their meals and a Diet Coke for me. It sounds really hard to go out to eat and not actually eat. Once I tried it, I don't have many problems doing it. There are two benefits (1) no guilt, and (2) more time to concentrate on the kids. Instead of shooshing the kids or getting upset with them because I can't eat MY food, I can help them with their food and have conversation with them. The Diet Coke kept my hands busy and my tummy full until I got home. Once home I made a turkey sandwich. Seriously, if you're struggling with weight and have small kids (or a similar situation) try it once. You'll be surprised at how easy it is.
By the way, if you just can't get away without ordering, ONE regular hamburger and a Diet Coke are within boundaries. On Weight Watchers, it's 7 points. Perfect for a meal. NO FRENCH FRIES. The Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad with Southwest Dressing will work too (I forget with the points value are, but you can look those up...it's reasonable.) I found that eating out from time-to-time helps to keep you on track during the long term. Just be reasonable about it. "One cookie won't kill you....it's the whole box that causes trouble." Right?
Another eating out tip: Pizza Hut buffet. See if you can get the kid's buffet price and explain that you're doing the salad bar and you only want one piece of pizza. The pizza slice is small and you'll fill up on salad (watch the dressing portions!). Takes care of that pizza craving for a while. I give myself 7 points for the pizza and 4 for the dressing. Still reasonable number of points for a meal.
Any other tips?

Exercise and vacations
On such a hot day, the kids are doing as well as can be expected. The little guy is sleeping and the big kids are playing Chutes and Ladders. We're taking them to the pool later today. It's way to hot for me to take Ty to the pool this afternoon. In reality, I'd like to participate in the kettlebells class at the gym, but some family time is needed too. Jeff gave me a kettlebell for my birthday, so I could exercise at home later this evening.
Jeff and I ran a 5K relay for the first time on Saturday. Ya, it didn't go so great, but we did it. I'm not a fast runner. The experience leads me to question again if I even want to run. I've never really liked it, do I want to pursue it?
I've lost a little over 15 pounds since starting Biggest Looser (20 since starting my weightloss journey). I'm super excited about that! Instead of running distance, I've started running intervals. This seems to work out better for me, and I don't spend as much time on the treadmill. I spend 30 minutes running intervals and then 15 minutes doing something else like the bike or elliptical. Then of course a quick round on the weights. Tracking my food on Weight Watchers has been very beneficial. WW has worked better for me than counting calories.
Looking forward to seeing Jessica and Dave on our family vacation in August. I'm very excited that they agreed to rent a cabin with us. The kids are SO looking forward to seeing auntie.
We scheduled Jeff's birthday trip! I'm not going to tell you how old, but it's a big one...therefore an entire trip dedicated to the big day. We'll be staying at Mountian Villas in Duluth close to Spirit Mountain. We're going at the end of October, so we recognize that the weather will be hit-n-miss. In any weather event, we'll have a blast!
Lots of fun things to think about.

Insert Foot in Mouth
You know how you make judgements about people and you're completely wrong? Yep. That's me today. Miss Judgemental. Miss Develop-an-opinion-about-someone-before-you-know-them. I was at the gym trying to complete one more workout before weigh-in tonight. Another "Biggest Looser" participant and I were on the elliptical chatting about getting her bridesmaid dress altered. Another very pretty skinny young lady was also exercising next to us and of course I immediately think "oh sure, like she really needs to be here." Well moments later, she politely interrupted us and asked about the seamstress because she had just lost 30 pounds since January and needed her bridesmaid dress altered. Oh my gosh. I'm such a butt head! Needless to say, I got her email and forwarded all the info she needed. Lesson learned.
On with my day. I'm hoping to get another pound off since last week's weigh-in. I had dropped 5 pounds that week so I don't have very high expectations this week. Wish me luck!

First birthday and 10 pounds
Happy birthday to my baby! The little guy is 1. We made it through another first year. We had a small birthday party last night with grandparents. Cake, BBQ and good conversation. Lars and Ali were good helpers especially when it came to opening presents. They were very eager to teach him how.
I'm officially down 10 pounds! Now to keep going. I managed to run 3 miles today, which is a huge break-through for me. Even better news, I could have kept going, but I needed to get Ali to swimming. No running tomorrow, but I will do something fast and furious.
Sadly we are running out of time finding homes for 2 students coming this summer. Out of all of the United States, I'm hoping someone will find the families. We are also starting to get desperate on find families for the 5 and 10 months students. There is a bunch of really neat looking kids that would be fantastic in any home.

Brides, students, exercise, and more!!!
Busy weekend!
I'm meeting with a September bride tomorrow morning. So excited to see her again and calm the jitters. Her wedding will be beautiful on Lake Minnetonka. The couple has such a great story, I'm honored to be a part of their big day. Double bonus, Sarah is coming with me to the site visit! It's so nice to have my helper with me. Double Double Bonus....double, double coupon day at Rainbow. We'll be in the cities = we're going shopping!
Tim Allen at Treasure Island with another couple on Sunday night. We are giddy beyond belief to get out of the house without kids for a while.
Our team is urgently trying to place a student ASAP in a fun home! He's 17 and from China. He likes basketball, swimming, and snow skiing. Perfect for MN! If you are interested in more information, please give me a call. It would be nice to place him by mid-June so he can prepare for August arrival.
How's the Biggest Looser going? Well, the pounds haven't been coming off much (4 lbs total), but I have better endurance (I went from running for 7 minutes straight to running 20 minutes straight), stronger muscles, clothes are fitting better, and I'm down a bra size. Woohoo!! Somethings working right. Won't be long now and the pounds will follow.
Our student from Brazil has been emailing and we've been sharing pictures. He seems like a really nice kid. We are eager to pick him up from the airport in August.
Larson got off the bus today, the last day as a Kindergardener. Let the summer begin!

SOOOO Sore!!
UGH, I can't move. Our 1st week, and I've lost 2.8 pounds! Yay! OK, so I was hoping for maybe 4, but I'll take it. Actually, I miscalculated my calorie intake and wasn't eating enough. So the good news is that this week I get to eat more. Woohoo! Hopefully next week I'll have a weight loss that better matches my workout efforts. I'm seriously sore. Kettlebells class Monday, followed by a hard cardio workout on Tuesday, followed by Biggest Looser workout today. Yikes! I almost couldn't get up the stairs to put Ty to bed tonight. Good times.
The kids have been good. Lately Larson and Ali have been incredibly obnoxious, which is a little irritating. This summer will be very interesting. Ty isn't crawling or walking yet but wants too. He gets on his little hands and knees and goes backwards. I can't imagine his frustration. Ty's new favorite past-time.....pulling Ali's hair.

Workouts begin
I'm on my third day or working out and counting calories. The workouts are going great! I'm not AS sore as I thought I would be, and I feel that my arm and tummy muscles are getting stronger. The calorie part is harder. Being home most of the day it's tempting to open the cupboards and eat. Going out it's tempting to buy all the junk food I'm craving. Worse yet, eating out. We went to Applebees for my mom's birthday and it was really hard to not get desert. The 550 calorie menu was a life saver.

Gorgeous day!
What a day! I'm exhausted. Ty woke up early, but promptly fell asleep on the recliner for another 1-1/2 hrs. Unfortunately, the recliner was backed up against the wall. Yay for me. :(
We hit the gym this morning for my pre-Biggest Looser workout. I can't believe I start the program on Wednesday. Thirteen weeks and I should be back to pre-baby shape. Woo hoo! I'm excited to get started and at the same time not looking forward to the work.
After Ty's nap we drove into town, parked the car and walked. It was absolutely gorgeous outside today. Perfect temp for playing outside and no bugs! We hit the DQ (last chance DQ run) and two parks. We spent all afternoon outside. So a workout at the gym and a two-hour walk pushing a 55 pound stroller all in one day. I may be sore tomorrow morning.
Larson started Track and Field today. He seemed to really love it. I am SO hoping he'll like this. It's a sport without sticks or balls involved....should be perfect. Let's all keep our fingers crossed.

Bunnies, birthdays, and exercise
Count down to the Easter Bunny! Lots of excitement at our house. Tonight the Easter Bunny will be filling eggs, hiding them and setting out the presents. Thankfully EB did his shopping this afternoon. Whew! Cutting it close this year.
Mom is all signed up for The Biggest Loser which starts in a few weeks. I have an appointment to meet with the trainer and get up to speed on all the equipment at the gym. I'm super excited. Sounds like we will be doing lots of running, which would be awesome. It would be fun to keep up with Jeff and Jessica (my sister) and we could go on runs together. It's time for momma to get back into shape, strong and healthy.
Larson had a birthday party this afternoon. He was SO excited. On the way to the party he requested to listen to music so he could "get ready for the party." Guess he needed a little mental prep time. Yes, my boy is growing up.

Yep, it's an ear infection
Momma's right, Ty has an ear infection. Both ears actually. Yesterday evening we were at Urgent Care for a positive diagnosis and Walmart's pharmacy for antibiotics. Last night was rough. Jeff and I were up most of the night with him. Pour little guy. This morning continued to be rough, but by the time I got home from work and a hair cut, he was looking/acting like himself again.
Now that the little monkey is taken care of, mom's going to do some up-keep too. I've made great strides in getting the pregnancy weight off. One clothes' size and 10 pounds is nothing to sneeze at, but a great opportunity came up. I really want to get back into the summer clothes. I bought a whole new awesome wardrobe 2 summers ago and I'm determined to wear them again (last summer I had Ty, so I took a summer off). Anyway, the opportunity is The Biggest Looser through one of our local fitness programs. Now, I am no where near the weight of the famous "Biggest Looser" contestants on the TV show. However, a little time to get away and work on myself will be energizing. I'll keep my progress posted. This should be interesting.

"First time" parenting moment...Anyone else??
You'd think we've never had kids before. It took FOREVER to install the convertible seat for Ty (backwards facing of course). I'm excited that he's made the big move to the bigger seat. He seems to want to sit straighter versus laying in a reclined position in the infant car seat. I thought I would be able to install the darn thing myself. After all, I've done it a zillion times. Nope. It took two of us way longer than it should have. Needless to say, that sucker isn't going anywhere.
I'm wondering, any ones else? Any good "d'oh!" stories out there??

Not what I planned, but good anyway...
OK, so today didn't go like I had thought. The little monkey has goop in his eyes when I get back from lab. All afternoon Ty didn't want to nap. I hope he doesn't have an ear infection. He's been fighting a cold and teething.
We have a busy night. Larson has soccer and I have a Couponing class; both at 6:30. We have it all planned. I'll go to the class and Jeff will take the kids to soccer. I take advantage of the tax deal at Papa Murphys and pick up a $5 pizza for dinner. As the world of a mother turns, Ty needs to go to bed early and it wouldn't be right for us to take him to soccer. So, I'm missing Coupon class. I'm SO bummed! (For more information about Couponing class go to www.tidytightwads.com. Another good source for frugalness is www.confessionsofamom.com. Follow their blogs or catch them on FB.)
The good news: I'm sitting at home alone for about a hour while Ty is sleeping and Jeff and the kids are in town. Another set of good news, there's a "Stretching the Family Dollar" webcast on www.247moms.com tomorrow night. I can still get something out of this week. Yay!!
Despite Ty's little cold, we managed to get some fun stuff done today. Ali had a friend over for a few hours after preschool. Ironically, I find it easier to have one more child in the house because it keeps everyone entertained. Instead of hearing the whiney "mom, mom, mom", there's giggling, running, and playing. The girls and I made cookies while we waited for Larson to come home. The kids sat nice while we had pizza for dinner. They chatted and giggled the whole time. Everyone had a great time.
Another positive, we picked an exchange student to stay with us for 5 months this fall! I'm very excited that the process is almost over. The student and his family should be receiving our family profile to (hopefully) accept us. I'll post more info as I know more. Our whole family is super excited!

Weird day so far
Ty fell asleep last night at 5:30pm. The good news is that he slept for 12 hours. The bad news is he slept for 12 hours. It was a little early for this momma, but he quickly took a nap and I was able to sleep a little more too...thanks to daddy. Today our schedule is all goofed up, but I'm sure it'll get on track tonight. He's a happy little guys today though. Smiles and giggles a plenty. He almost got up on his hands and knees in a crawling position. Soon enough he'll be mobile.
To complete this bizarre afternoon, a bird flew into the dining room window. It happens about a dozen times a year, but still scares the living daylights out of me each time. Silly birds. I hope this one rebounded OK.
Ty and I visited my mom and dad this afternoon. Dad's finally recovering well from knee surgery. He's actually doing better off the pain medication and is taking regular Tylenol and Ibuprofen. He even went to work for a while, and mom visited her work to figured out the timing of her return from "vacation." Things are really looking up.

Loved MOPS summit!
Spent the day today with other MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) leaders at Summit. Got a lot of great ideas for next year, and I've been refreshed for my family. The theme for Summit this year was Same Difference, and we explored how we're all the same but different and that's how God wants it. We need to celebrate each other's similarities and differences.
I will be spending tomorrow morning with my dad while mom is at church. Dad had knee surgery and is doing OK, but still needs someone at home just in case. Hopefully in a week he'll be able to trust himself to be home alone for a while. The really good news is that I'm bring work with me and will have a few hours of quite time to get something done. Yay!

Long time no see!
Wow! That New Year's resolution didn't work out....I haven't been on the blog for MONTHS! To update, we did get a new car (a mini van, which I love), Jeff is still loving his new job and the kids are growing. Ty is sitting up and babbling. He's almost ready to crawl. Larson still loves school and Ali still can't wait to go to Kindergarden. Larson has made a good friend and I look forward to watching that friendship grow. I'm working part-time at the local college and enjoy the challenge.
I've also been working as a coordinator for CETUSA which is an organization that places foreign exchange students with fantastic fun families in the US. I'm currently the coordinator for two beautiful fun girls placed in another family. We have fun each time we're together. We're hoping to go shopping at the MOA soon. Yay! If anyone is interested in learning more about CETUSA and the opportunity to invite a student into their home, check out the website at http://www.cetusa.org/ and give me a call. We have over 150 students waiting to be placed. We have some 5 month students and a bunch of 10 month students. I'm hoping to bring home a 5 month student in September, so we'll see what happens.
Lots of exciting things coming up for this family, and I promise to keep up on the blog. This time I really really promise. :-)
